How to Jump Higher and Increase Vertical Leap
Learning How to Jump Higher
There are many many reasons you may want to learn how to jump higher. And believe me, I know that it can be important! Whether you are a seasoned athlete or an exuberant high-schooler, we all can benefit from increasing our vertical leap.
I remember, oh so clearly, that fateful day I was wandering through some forest property with some friends of mine, I must have been 17 at the time, and I saw it...
The fence.
... Now, as you may well know, it is an unspoken rule among guys that fences are for jumping, and when we see one, it is a challenge.
So, without explanation, I tore off towards the old wooden fence and leaped high into the air, even forcing my body at an angle to create further clearance.
My toe caught.
My acrobatic presentation had just earned me a nose dive. My arm got caught in one of the cross boards and hit the ground in a most unusual manner... a tangled mess. It must have been quite a sight to my on-lookers.
Moments later, I saw my friend's head peer over the fence, looking down at what was left of me:
"Pride cometh before the fall" she said, oh so eloquently.
Here on the site, I'm providing some of what I know about jumping, specifically the vertical leap, that will hopefully lay a foundational understanding of jump mechanics and some simple exercises you can use immediately to increase your vertical leap.
You may also want to check out Luke Lowrey's methods, if you are serious, that can actually DOUBLE your leap.
So, obviously, there's a lot more to jumping than leaping into the air. An understanding of Plyometric exercises and knowing good technique are both important when learning how to jump higher so that you can soar to new heights, without hurting yourself.
